Consulting in community development context
(emerging needs for community development, regional development and EU programs)

Trainer and Consultant for Partners for Democratic Change Slovakia She studied urban planning at the Faculty of Architecture of the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava. From 1998 to 1999, she completed a one-year study visit to the Institute for Policy Studies at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA, dedicating her postgraduate studies to community development and citizen participation. She has been working for Partners for Democratic Change Slovakia since 1994, and is currently employed as a vice-director, consultant, trainer and evaluator mostly in area of citizen participation, community development, organizational development, and strategic planning. In addition to her domestic experience, she has also delivered a number of training courses abroad (such as in the Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Poland).

Blažena Hušková, independent consultant, Czech Republic
After studies at the Charles´University in Prague, Faculty of Science, Chair of Nature Conservation and Landscape Ecology she worked as a landscape ecologist at the Protected Landscape Area Jizerske hory Mountains Administration (1986 - 1995). She co-founded the Foundation for Rescue and Restoration of Jizerske hory Mts. and worked as its director (1995 - 2002). She led projects focused on revitalization of forest ecosystems under air pollution impact and later she specialized on public participation in planning and decision- making processes, cross-sector communication and cooperation, role of NGOs in the process of formulating and implementing sustainable development strategies. She participated in several international projects (Women’s Rural Community Leadership Training Program, Rural Livelihoods etc.). Her current position: project manager of the Jizerske hory Public Benefit Corporation, private consultant/trainer.

Zora Pauliniová, PDCS, Slovakia
She currently works as trainer, consultant and facilitator in development. She had graduated on Faculty of Architecture, Slovak Technical University and finished postgraduate studies “Environmental Management” (Academia Istropolitana, 1994), Environmental Politics in International Context (CUB, 1995), International Certificate in Training, Learning and Development and International Certificate for Assessors and Advisors (Thames Valley University, GB, 1999) and Social Development Practice (London Metropolitan University, GB 2003). She has broadened her expertise on study tours in USA, Great Britain, Irish Republic and Japan.
Zora Pauliniová works across all three sectors mainly in the areas dealing with personal, organizational and community development, public participation, cross-sector cooperation and long term processes facilitation.
She is editor and co-author of the Reader for NGOs (1998) and a book and CD “Public participation (2000, 2001, and 2003). She is the member of the Club of Trainers and Consultants for Nonprofit sector.

Gabriella Benedek, Istenkút Community Association, Hungary
Trainer and consultant for Istenkút Community Association She studied English and Hungarian language and literature at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pécs. From 2001 she engaged with studies in Social Development Practice in The Development School. In 2003, she graduated achieved a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Development Practice accredited by London Metropolitan University.
She has been working for Istenkút Community Association since 2000, and is currently employed as a trainer and development practitioner in the field of citizen participation, community development, civil organizational development and evaluation and management in the voluntary sector. She has also delivered a number of training courses for the international community of EVS Volunteers and in the frame of the Comenius/ Gruntvig Programme. She is member of national and international networks like Hungarian Association for Community Development (HACD), Young Women Leadership Program (YWLI), and the RETEXTIL Manufacture. She has initiated pilot projects in the field of women’s social reintegration equal chances and creative therapy. Most recently she has been exploring the field of the development of networks and partnerships.

A case study of a decentralized consultation and networking project for local community development organizations in the Pécs area, Southern Hungary — a 2003/2004 Phare program, implemented by Istenkút Community Association. As a member of the consultant’s team, Gabriella will introduce the project and share the lessons learned in the work-group. Finally, a short film spot will be shown so that participants can nose about the atmosphere of the development initiative.
