Training of trainers for traditional training and facilitative education of adults
Goal:
To prepare graduates for the work of trainers and facilitators, to offer appropriate theoretical knowledge and provide space to acquire skills necessary for the work of a trainer and facilitator (working with group dynamics, dealing with difficult situations in a group, communication skills, training program development etc.)
Graduate profile:
Graduates are going to learn about basic approaches to training, practise various methods and types of methodology used in training education of adults. They will be prepared to deliver professional training services and evaluate training programs. They will also be familiar with principles of facilitation and understand various models of group decision-making. Through role plays and simulated real situations, they will have a chance to practice newly acquired skills.
Total scope:
72 hours (3 x 3 days, 3 days = 24 hours) with three required three-day sessions.
The course includes three compact sessions related to each other which provide participants knowledge and skills needed to conduct traditional training or use approach of facilitated learning in educational workshops for adults.
Sessions 1 and 2: Training of trainers – developing and conducting training programs (48 hours: 2x3 days)
Session 3: Facilitation and facilitated learning (24 hours)
SESSION 1: TRAINING OF TRAINERS – DEVELOPING AND CONDUCTING TRAINING PROGRAMS (24 HOURS)
1. Definitions of trainer/training
2. Changes in approaches to adult education internationally and in Slovakia
3. Specifics of training programs
4. Roles, competencies and training style
5. Methods, methodology and structure of training
6. Discussion methods
7. Experiential methods and games
8. Role-play approaches (drama)
9. Preparation and presentation of part of a training course
(including feedback from other participants and lecturer using videorecording)
SESSION 2: TRAINING OF TRAINERS – DEVELOPING AND CONDUCTING TRAINING PROGRAMS (24 HOURS)
1. Group dynamics and dynamics of training process
2. Difficult situations and problems of conducting a training program
3. Development, implementation and transfer of training programs
4. Evaluation of training programs
5. Professional development of trainers and supervision
6. New long-term trends in delivery of adult education
7. Distance training (CD-ROM, On-line training...)
8. Experiments with other forms of training (training café, peripathetic training, etc.)
9. Trainer's Code of Ethics (international and national experience),
10. Preparation and presentation of part of a training course
(including feedback from other participants and lecturer using videorecording)
SESSION 3: FACILITATION AND FACILITATED LEARNING
(24 HOURS)
1. Definitions of facilitation and facilitated learning
2. Sources underlying facilitation approaches
3. Specifics and differences of applying facilitation in various kinds of context
4. Skills of facilitator
5. Facilitation of group decision-making
6. Social development approach and its consequences for process facilitation
7. Practising facilitation under simulated conditions
